Middlebury School in Cameroon

At the School in Cameroon, students commit to the Language Pledge, agreeing to speak exclusively in French throughout their time abroad. This immersive approach enables participants to make significant gains in language proficiency.

Located in Yaound, the program offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in Francophone African culture and society. Based at the Universit Catholique d'Afrique Centrale, students enroll in a range of humanities and social science courses alongside local peers. They live with host families and commute to campus, gaining firsthand insight into daily life in Cameroon. While host families vary in size and composition, students are warmly welcomed into both the household and the broader community.

To enrich the academic experience, the program director organizes a major excursion within Cameroon, and students are encouraged to pursue independent co-curricular activities that align with their interests.

Whether through coursework, extracurricular involvement, internships, or volunteer opportunities, students are expected to live the language while exploring the cultural, social, and intellectual life of Cameroons vibrant capital.
