Middlebury School in Greater China
Middleburys programs in Beijing and Kaohsiung, Taiwan, are designed to foster deep linguistic and cultural immersion, helping students rapidly advance their Chinese language skills.
In Beijing, Chinas dynamic capital, students live and study on the campus of Capital Normal University. In the coastal city of Kaohsiung, students are hosted at National Sun Yat-sen University, with opportunities for homestays and internships that further enhance cultural engagement.
Students take all of their courses in Chinese, including individualized tutorials and content-based electives. Beyond the classroom, they practice their language skills through daily interactions with fellow students and local peers, building confidence and fluency in authentic settings.
At both locations, students benefit from Middleburys rigorous curriculum and commitment to the Language Pledge. By agreeing to speak only Mandarin Chinese throughout their time abroad, participants maximize their opportunities to achieve fluency and engage meaningfully with the local community and culture.
