Middlebury School in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory in the Caribbean, is shaped by a rich blend of Indigenous, Spanish, African, and North American influences. Its unique political history and cultural identity make it an exceptional destination for students interested in Caribbean Studies, Afro-Latinx Studies, Diaspora Studies, Postcolonial Studies, and Spanish language and culture.

Students enroll directly in a wide range of academic disciplines at one of Puerto Ricos leading universities, gaining firsthand experience in the islands intellectual, cultural, and social life. In addition to coursework, participants may pursue internships and other experiential learning opportunities that connect their academic interests with the local community. Students may study at the University of Puerto Rico's Mayagez campus, the University of Puerto Rico's Ro Piedras campus, or the Universidad del Sagrado Corazn.

These opportunities allow students to combine rigorous academics with immersive, place-based learning while exploring the complex histories, cultures, and contemporary issues that shape Puerto Rico and the broader Caribbean region.
